The Action Pool Tour (APT) held its 3rd event of the 2012-2013 Session at VIP Billiards in Catonsville, MD on the weekend of December 8-9, 2012.  This event was billed as the Toys for Tots 8-Ball Tournament in which every player who donated a new unopened toy received $10 off their entry fee.  The 8-ball event drew an impressive field of 63 players including the likes of Mike Davis, Shaun Wilkie, Rob Saez, Brett Stottlemyer, and Brian Deska just to name a few.

Play began at 1:00pm sharp on Saturday, December 8th and continued until approximately 10:00pm with no significant early upsets.  By the end of Day #1, sixteen (16) players remained; eight on the winners’ side and eight on the one-loss side.  The winners’ side final eight included Brett Stottlemyer, Greg Sabins, Rafael Reyes, Dominic Noe, Mike Davis, Jeremy Perkins, Brian Deska and Shaun Wilkie while the one-loss side consisted of Tour Director Ozzy Reynolds, Andy Lincoln, Wayne Varner, Rob Saez, Sergey Bolotin, Dave Hunt, Dan Madden and Mike McNaughton.

Day #2 began on the winners’ side on Sunday, December 9th with Deska edging Wilkie 7-5 on the live stream table while Stottlemyer easily defeated Sabins 7-2, Davis blanked Perkins 7-0 and Noe won by forfeit over Reyes.  The next round saw Davis down Deska 7-5 while Stottlemyer was upset by Noe 7-3.  This set up Davis vs. Noe for the hot seat.  Davis continued to roll as he got by Noe relatively easily by a score of 7-3 and earned a spot in the finals for the 2nd consecutive Action Pool Tour event.

Meanwhile on the one-loss side, Saez blanked Varner 5-0 while the other three matches went hill-hill with Lincoln over Reynolds, Hunt over Bolotin and McNaughton over Madden.  Saez would move on to continue his domination as he defeated Wilkie 5-0, while Hunt eliminated Sabins 5-2, Lincoln squeaked by Perkins 5-4 McNaughton edged Reyes by the same score.  Lincoln and McNaughton’s roll would finally come to an end as Lincoln fell to Saez 5-3 and McNaughton fell to Hunt 5-2.  Hunt moved on to pick up Deska who was sent west by Davis.  Hunt’s west side charge was finally stopped as he was eliminated by a score of 5-2.  Saez then picked up a rematch against Stottlemyer.  The outcome this time was no different as Saez fell easily by a score of 5-1.  Next up was Stottlemyer and Deska for the right to face Noe in the semi-finals.  Stottlemyer continued his dominant play by winning 5-2 and sending Deska home.  The next match was a Stottlemyer/Noe rematch in which Stottlemyer was the clear favorite.  However, someone forgot to tell Noe that he wouldn’t defeat Stottlemyer twice in the same event.  Noe played very steady and consistent as he sent Stottlemyer packing by a score of 5-3 and earned the right to face Davis in the finals.

Noe would have to defeat Davis twice in the true double elimination format.  Although Noe had played terrific all weekend and defeated some of the top tour players, Davis took an early lead and never relented.  In the end, Davis won his first Action Pool Tour event of the session with a decisive 7-2 victory and claimed the 63-player tournament victory.  The complete bracket is posted on the Results Page.

Other notable results of the event include the top female finisher, the Break & Run contest and the 2nd Chance Tournament.  Seven (7) females: Ann Reynolds, Lai Li, Kia Sidbury, Nicole Vincent, Jackie Rivera, Debbie Davis and Meredith Lynch competed in the event in which the top placing female would earn a $100 cash prize.  In the end, Kia Sidbury prevailed to take home top female honors and the $100 cash prize.

The Break & Run contest, which had a payout of $75 per ball, was conducted on Saturday night.  A spectator had the winning ticket and elected to have Brett Stottlemyer shoot on her behalf.  Everyone crowded the table as Stottlemyer plowed the 10-ball rack.  The rack exploded and a ball found a pocket.  However, another ball rammed the cue ball into the corner pocket; ending the attempt.  The total purse will progressively roll into the next event with a total payout of $90 per ball.

The 2nd Chance Tournament began on Sunday at approximately 12:30pm with 9 participants.  Tour Director, Ozzy Reynolds, came from the one-loss side to defeat Madden twice and claim the $120 prize while Madden took home $60 for 2nd place.  Coming in 3rd was Will Moon earning $20.  The complete bracket is posted on the Results page.

The Action Pool Tour would like to thank all of the players who came out to participate.  A special thanks also goes out to the owners of VIP Billiards, Steve & Jess Didier for providing a terrific venue and for organizing the Toys for Tots charity initiative for this event.  This room is quickly becoming THE pool room in the Baltimore area and we look forward to returning many more times in the future for more great Action!  Thanks also to our sponsors: Lambros Cues, Magic Ball Rack (CSI), AzBilliards.com, PoolActionTV, and Steve Lingafelter.
